Thomas is a human bard who was stolen away to Faerie when, travelling near Arran, he caught the attention of Tiphaine. For the past 18 years he has been her lover and her servant, bearing both her affection and her spite with equal equanimity: he is besotted with Tiphaine due to a powerful spell of Infatuation. He cannot be shown 'sense' with regard to Tiphaine and is extremely sensitive to any slights against her.
Apart from her short bursts of cruelty when vexed, Tiphaine treats him tolerably and his life is not unpleasant. His memories of his previous life are very blurred, and he cannot imagine living anywhere else. If visitors are polite and respectful to Tiphaine he may help them, but his reactions will be much influenced by hers.
