123 years out of apprenticeship, 146 years old, follower of
Bonisagus. Placidus, along with Salaco, Livia, Scelus and Aequus,
founded the covenant at the beginning of the colonisation of Britain
by the Order. Placidus is an expert in In and Re Vim, but is a great
generalist. Although strong enough, he is not an Arch Mage and
seems uninterested in such status.
A pleasant man, tall and stout, with a gingery beard tinged silver
and over-pink complexion, a soft voice & genial laugh, he is the
kernel of good sense and good judgement around which the
covenant has flourished.
Placidus is concerned now with maintaining the stability of FA. He
has been worried about the lack of new blood and until recently
was reluctant to take an apprentice himself his previous
apprentice, Caitlin being killed. However, in 903, determined to
play his own part in strengthening FA, he searched for and found
an apprentice: a pleasant young girl. She is now approaching her
gauntlet.
Placidus' ambitions for FA seem unending: he has recently
coordinated a massive building and reorganisation project - which
has now reached completion allowing more laboratory space, and
the further improvement of the library. Future plans include further
recruitment, the finding of further vis sources and further
improvements to the library.
84 years out of apprenticeship, 107 years old, follower of Guernicus.
Aequus is a Quaesitor for the Tribunal and much respected, though
not much liked. He spends much of his time in the covenant on
research but has travelled to Magvillus (including a recent trip) and
around the tribunal on business. He is extremely traditional in his
views and allows little leeway in interpretation of the Code,
occasionally being criticised as too critical and rigid. While he
helped to found Flamma Aeterna, he has always retained a certain
isolation from the other magi, though he is quite fond of Placidus,
and they often work together.
Aequus' short term goals are to maintain and increase stability
within the Tribunal and the Order, and on a personal level to gain
status as an Arch Mage. Status is extremely important to him, and
the continuing situation of Julius as Head Quaesitor of Brittania is
an irritant. In recent years, he has stepped up surveillance on other
covenants, and increased his contacts within the house. As a result
of one of his contacts, a young quaesitor, Agrippina, has recently
been sent to aid him.
91 years out of apprenticeship, 117 years old, follower of Tytalus.
Trained in Fudarus, he met Livia and found his spiritual and
magical equal, falling in love with her (though of course he won't
ever tell her). He is an expert in Pe Co, but like Livia keeps all of his
arts good.
Scelus is an Arch Mage (he beat Livia to the position by a couple of
months), but his combatitive manner mean that he is little trusted in
the tribunal. He is however, utterly loyal to his covenant and Order
and has often risked his life -- fighting exotics and fantastic beasts --
in their protection. It has confused magi from other covenants when
at Tribunals they assume that he and Livia will act against each
other potentially against the covenant, to find that when it comes
down to it, despite their antagonism, they will act in favour of the
covenant. While other magi from the tribunal trust him little, his
orthodox views mean that when he is not in competition with Livia
he often aids the Quaesitors in maintenance of order.
Scelus is now quite an established Arch Mage. He was
acknowledged as such after defeating a Giant of the North, after
finding out the secret of its separate heart. The latter is only
knowledge amongst a small number of the Order. Although he still
enjoys travelling, he has been kept very busy in the labs at FA in
recent years and the only excursions have been to find his new
apprentice (a singularly unpleasant young man) and to observe the
politics of Winchester.
94 years out of apprenticeship, 123 yrs old, follower of Tremere.
Trained at Coeris and a combatitive magus. She met Scelus shortly
before they joined FA and they began a sparring match that has
lasted since. They have played magical and non-magical games and
hotly contest each. Secretly, Livia loves Scelus, and acknowledges
him as her magical and mental equal but outwardly they are
antagonistic towards each other. Livia is a Re Ign specialist and
with her hot temper can be quite dangerous if provoked. She is,
however, still orthodox in her views with respect to the Order and
Code and will defend her covenant and house to the hilt.
Livia gained her own sigil thirty years previously in certamen with
her parens, a rather weak individual who gained his own sigil from
the death of his parent and so she currently holds her own and that
of Cassia. Like Scelus, she has also recently taken an apprentice, and
has spent the majority of her time holed up in FA working, or
observing the Danelaw court in York. She was acknowledged as an
Arch Mage some years ago after news reached the Order of her
speaking with a Dragon something few people manage to do and
live.
Salaco was one of the founders of Flamma Aeterna and an expert in
Cr Te and Vi, as well as a crafter of many fine items. In his youth he
was arrogant and took many risks while experimenting to create
truly innovative pieces, winning the contest at Verdi once, but this
meant that he went into Final Twilight before his time, at the end of
Autumn 911. Salaco is sorely missed, especially by his oldest friend,
Placidus, and the atmosphere of Flamma has been more sombre
than usual since his passing.
60 years out of apprenticeship, 89 years old, follower of Jerbiton.
Thressa is the voice of reason and common sense within the
covenant. She joined Flamma Aeterna after her previous covenant
was Wizard Marched in the Thebes tribunal for harbouring non-
hermetics: only she was spared after the Quaesitorial investigation
and joined FA in the certain knowledge that she would not
encounter the same problems. She is a natural conservative, and
while not a brilliant magus, she is quite competant in the arts and
has quietly progressed well at the covenant.
Thressa deals with all mundane affairs for the covenant and is
currently determined to bring the mundane library up to the same
standard of the arcane library, despite the relative apathy of the
other magi. She is determindly not interested in the outside affairs
of the tribunal, though occasionally will aid Livia or Scelus if they
go hunting for exotics. Thressa is a short, stout woman with a
tanned complexion and dark curling hair, and seems to be in a
permanent bustle as she 'organises' the covenant. Her work recently
has revolved around helping Placidus coordinate the
reorganisations, especially the reorganisation of the mundane
servants, and the vetting of outside workers.
56 years out of apprenticeship, 79 years old, follower of Merinita.
Mico joined Flamma Aeterna after a Spring covenant he helped to
co-found failed and he was approached at the next tribunal
meeting. FA needed a Merinita to negotiate with the local fae
population, but since has been a full member of the covenant,
despite initial unease. Mico continues to bear responsibility for the
covenant's relationship with the Fae, which he enjoys.
Mico has no fae blood but was born and raised near a Fae forest in
Wales and began his fascination then. He eternally regrets his
humanity and spends as much time as he can in the nearby faerie
lands and has not often been long in the covenant in recent years. In
truth, he has constructed a small lab with a faerie regio within the
forest and uses it so that he can remain closer to his faerie friends
while working or writing. As a result of concern within the
covenant, he has spent a little more time at the covenant recently,
updating his contributions to the library, but he is once more
becoming bored, and has recently returned to the Fae.
Mico, despite being human, has changed his appearance somwhat.
When within the faerie lands he takes on a more faerie appearance,
and though he lessens this when within the covenant, it is still
apparent, to the distaste of Aequus among others.
Follower of Tremere, filia Livia. Cassia left Flamma Aeterna in 909
to start a new covenant in the Thebes tribunal. While she was the
lover of Caulis, she couldn't bear the atmosphere of competition
between her mater, Livia and Scelus, which affected their
relationships with their filii.
41 years out of apprenticeship, 70 years old, follower of Tytalus,
filius Scelus. Caulus 'lost' Livia and Scelus' race to complete an
apprentice and has suffered since, with Scelus forever berating and
harassing him. He is now a quite competant magus, specialising in
PeCo and used to take comfort in the dream that he and Cassia
would be able to leave FA and all the antagonism behind, but
Cassia has recently left without him, as he was forever unable to
commit to making the final decision to go. Scelus had been putting
considerable pressure on Caulis to stay (so he can keep tormenting
him, so the world doesn't see what a shambles he gauntleted, to
keep the sigils within FlammaŠ) and Caulis' willpower and self
confidence are so shaken by years of abuse that he finds it too hard
to go. Now jolted by the loss of Cassia, he is little more than a shell
of his former self.
Follower of Tytalus, Cornelius is a young man of average height
and slender build, with raven black hair, pale skin and grey eyes.
He dresses entirely in black clothes of good quality. Cornelius is of
unknown ancestry, discovered by his parent on the streets of Paris
as a street urchin. He rescued him and took him back to his
covenant in Provence. Cornelius' apprenticeship was not an easy
one: his master was unpleasant and while he taught him for the
necessary fifteen seasons, his teaching was scanty and has meant
that his knowlegde of the Arts is a little short. Instead he spent
much of his time with his parent travelling and fighting exotics and
beasts. He has thus gained a reputation among the Order as a bit of
a trouble-maker. He looks forward to his time at Flamma to increase
his Arts and provide him with the opportunities that this strongly
ambitious man has so far lacked.
Follower of Guernicus, Agrippina was trained in Magvillus by her
parent, Agrippa, a strongly orthodox and traditional quaesitor, and
a natural ally to Aequus. When Aequus spent time at Magvillus he
befriended Agrippa and together they decided that Agrippina
would be a helpful in Aequus' battle to maintain Roman values in
the tribunal. Agrippina is quite happy about this as she is ambitious
and believes that experience away from the dry atmosphere of
Magvillus will be useful, also she has inherited her parent's strong
opinions and grew to like Aequus a great deal during his visit.
Agrippina is a rather attractive young woman, lithe and slender, of
medium height with long black hair and blue eyes. While she is
inclined to dress in more adorned clothes she has followed Aequus
lead in wearing only all black clothing of plain but good
quality.
Follower of Bonisagus. Nicolai is a young man: slightly short and
plump, with a pink complexion and mousey, receding hair. Lame
from an accident in the lab in the early years of his apprenticeship,
shy and prone to a stutter when in non-magical speech, Nicolai is
not used to interaction with non-magi, but is much more effective in
the lab. Found by his parent an outcast in a merchant's family, he
took well to life in his new covenant and while not making a
brilliant name for himself, has proved to be good in the lab and to
have a talent for writing and teaching.
