The Arcane Library

The Arcane Library of Flamma Aeterna is located on the second and third floors, in the far left corner of Old Court, near to Placidus' tower. Entry is through an impressive wooden door, surrounded by a carved stonework arch.

As you enter the library you are first aware of the size of the place and the light coming in through high, though narrow, windows. By the door is a lectern on which sits a large, leather bound book in black leather embossed with a gold phoenix symbol. It appears to be an index of the books held within.

Across the stone floor there are heavy wooden tables -- you can count twenty in all -- upon which sit books -- lots of them. All the books seem to be black leather bound, and of fine quality, often using good quality vellum: most of them seem to be illuminated as well. As you investigate further you realise that each table holds books pertaining to a single Art: you note that the 'Intelligo' table is particularly well stacked. The further five tables seem to bear the collected covenant grimoire.

In the far corner is a wooden staircase with carved banisters which leads to the third floor. Again the first appearance is of space and light. The floor here is boarded in varnished hard wood and at regular intevals along the wall, by the glazed windows, are wide lecterns. At a lectern in the far corner a magus stands reading a tome, his voice like a whisper reaching you. On the opposite wall are a couple of further lecterns with parchment and vellum stacked neatly beside each, and writing materials carefully placed at their feet.
